The Selkirk Rex Cat

History

The Selkirk Rex cat developed in the United States in the state of Wyoming.  In 1987 a blue tortie and white female, later named Miss DePesto was found in a shelter.  Mated to a Persian, she became the foundation cat for the Selkirk Rex Breed.

As with the LaPerm, the Selkirk Rex gene is dominant.

Riverlight Selkirks

In 2009 Riverlight Cattery obtained our first Selkirk kitten. 

Panicha Prairie Sunrise, or Sunny, is a red pointed van male.

This is Sunny as a kitten.

He is a friendly boy with a think coat and sweet personality.  By the end of 2010 Sunny sired his first litter of kittens.

Since then we have also purchased Zacesta Tennessee Foxtrot a red male who did very well at his first show.

"Foxy" is a very "typy" Selkirk who promises to breed a good quality line of kittens for us into the future.

He had a very successful 2010 show year placing in Group 4 as both a kitten and adult.
